Mikel Arteta described as “formidable” Arsenal defender Gabriel after the Gunners register their first away win of the season at Burnley.
Martin Odegaard’s stunning free kick, the summer signing, separated the teams at Turf Moor as Arsenal claimed their second straight victory.
It was Odegaard’s first goal since joining the Gunners on a permanent move from Real Madrid last month.
Arteta was pleased with Odegaard’s goal and performance, but reserved special praise for Gunners defenseman Gabriel, who produced a confident display to keep Burnley on the sidelines.
“We know he is a player with an incredible future who has already given us a lot,” Arteta said of Brazilian star Gabriel.
“It doesn’t get much harder than playing here in the Premier League and he’s been great today.”
Commenting on Arsenal’s victory, Arteta added: “It was a hard-fought victory in a really tough place. You have to be ready for a fight.
“In the first half we had some really good times where we were really dominant and should have scored more goals. In the second half we gave the ball too often at low cost.
“We have players who are not at their level to play in this type of game, but they did their best and we won.
“I’m very proud of them defensively and I’m really happy with the victory. “These are two wins in a row, two clean sheets. Let’s go again. We have a lot to catch up! ‘
Burnley boss Sean Dyche said it was “scratching his head” that his side did not find an equalizer against Arsenal and claimed the Clarets “dominated” the game.
“I think it was a good performance. I feel like I’m a broken record saying that lately, ”he said.
“In the first half, we didn’t do much wrong. In the second half I thought we were stifling the game. It’s amazing that we didn’t score.
“We created some good chances. We handled the game incredibly well, but you have to find that advantage deadly.
“I think we defended very well today and limited Arsenal to very few chances which is difficult to do. It’s very rare that we dominate a game today like we did against them .
“This clinical advantage in both cases is significant. It was a very good performance at the end.
