Governors’ ball 2021: 5 most memorable moments and more



Closing in late summer 2021, the Governors Ball kicked off its 10th anniversary on Friday, September 24 in front of a crowd of around 50,000 attendees per day. Until September 26, the festival has been postponed from 2020 due to COVID-19 and moved from Randall’s Island, its former setting since its inception in 2011, to Citifield Baseball Stadium in Queens, New York. The Governors’ Ball got off to a strong start with opening night headliner Billie Eilish, A $ AP Rocky on Day 2 and Post Malone closing the final night of the festival.

Returning to some normalcy at full capacity, all participants were required to present proof of vaccination upon entry.

This year the festival hosted artists like Future Islands, Orville Peck, Kehlani, Rüfüs Du Sol, Portugal. The Man and Leon Bridges, Megan Thee Stallion, Phoebe Bridgers, J. Balvin, Charlotte Lawrence, Big Thief, King Princess and 21 Savage, Ellie Goulding, Young Thug, Carly Rae Jepsen, Dominic Fike, Caroline Polachek, and more.

These are some of the performances that amazed and captivated at Governors Ball 2021.

The mummified masked team of A $ AP Rocky stepped out to separate the audience shoulder to shoulder, creating matching mosh pits on either side of the main stage. Billie Eilish performed her first show in NYC since releasing her second album Happier than ever in early 2021. The evening’s first headliner, Eilish went through a 20-song set, including tracks from the debut of 2019 When we fall asleep, where do we go? and more recent songs “Lost Cause”, “My Future” and “NDA”.
