Of all the scenes in “The Matrix Reloaded”, the rave scene that takes place in the real town of Zion is arguably the most controversial.
Film school rejections ranked it as one of the most unnecessary films in the history of big budget cinema. The Guardian rated the intimate streak between Neo (Keanu Reeves) and Trinity (Carrie-Anne Moss) – which takes place during the infamous rave – as the worst sex scene in movie history, upon release. A user on Reddit, meanwhile, complained that the entire footage was “one of the most disturbing, awkward, and out of place scenes in all of the movies.”
Needless to say, this is a polarizing sequence. However, while many fans continue to reject the scenes, others have championed it – or at least appreciated the creative courage it took to include such a scene.
SyFy yarn, for example, argued that, “Nobody wanted it. Nobody asked for it. But it happened anyway, and, on some level, we all still dance to the beats today not all. quite impromptu from the Wachowski. ” Another user of the aforementioned Reddit thread wrote that “I know that if I found out that there was a very good chance that the world would end in a few days, I would like to spend my last days with my family and have fun (ie that is, the party zion dance). “
It is clear that the rave scene of “The Matrix Reloaded” remains conflictual, even if it tried to show the perseverance of humanity in the face of a possible destruction at the hands of evil machines.
