Some things haven’t changed despite nearly two decades as Matrix Resurrections achieved an R rating.
An R-Rating is nothing new with the franchise and its latest version, Matrix resurrections, gets the same from the Motion Picture Association of America (MPAA). Violence and a little bit of language made the film have such, similar to the original trilogy.
It was confirmed by Fandom this Matrix resurrections got an R rating from the MPAA for violence and some language. It follows the same vein as the original trilogy in which Recharged got such a rating for brief sex like Zion’s rave party scene. Revolutions also got the same rating for violence and sci-fi language.
Almost two decades have passed since the franchise was last released which makes it all the more exciting and its return is one of the long-awaited returns this year with Keanu Reeves and Carrie Moss as Neo and Trinity with Jada Pinkett Smith and Lambert Wilson. Newcomer Yahya Abdul-Mateen has big shoes to fill considering Lawrence Fishburne’s iconic portrayal of Morpheus was.

The matrix the universe was silent and it took them almost two decades for the fourth film. However, only Lana Wachowski will be back for this opus. The film was long overdue and finally it’s here. The last of the trilogy showed Neo and Trinity are dead: Trinity from the hovercraft crash and Neo faced his death after destroying Agent Smith. The heroes died saving everyone.
Theories are circulating that Neo and Trinity will be relaunched to fight a new threat that will arise after the original trilogy. The theory included that Neo and Trinity would time travel to visit Zion’s past and times when they might meet a young Morpheus who was then a rebellious brand.
Matrix resurrections is slated to hit theaters on December 22, 2021. It will also be available on HBO Max on the same date for online streaming.
