Apologies to all fall lovers, this week has just been brutal. Triple-digit temperatures left us all huddled indoors, reaching for ice packs and Googling which movie theaters have the best air conditioning. Or maybe this last breath of summer (fingers crossed) has you wanting to get out and have some fun. These are the events that excite us the most.
CELEBRATE THE BEGINNING OF FALL
It might not look exactly like fall right now in Southern California, but the Hi Autumn Festival is happening regardless. The two-day event takes place this Saturday and Sunday, September 10 and 11, in Temple City to celebrate the traditional Chinese autumn holiday. There will be carnival games, performances, and dozens of vendors offering Japanese, Korean, and Latin food. The event is free to the public
DANCE ALL NIGHT
We all sweat anyway, so might as well do it on a dance floor, right? This Saturday, September 10, Echoplex at Echo Park is hosting a 2000s hip hop dance party from 9 p.m. to 2 a.m. RSVP for free entry before 10 p.m. If hip-hop isn’t your scene, here are plenty of other great bars where you can dance this weekend.
REFRESH YOURSELF WITH WATER ICE
The wildly popular Happy Ice popsicle shop is popping up all over Southland this week, so if you don’t live near its original location on Melrose Ave., be sure to check their hours. Pit stops include Long Beach, West Covina, Torrance, Compton, and more. If you want more ways to stay cool, check out LA’s other super frozen treats.
Tabula Rasa, one of our favorite LA wine bars, is hosting a slew of different events at their East Hollywood location this week. First, they’re having a month-long toy drive throughout September for Children’s Hospital LA (make sure the toy you donate is in its original packaging). Wednesday is all about smashburgers and $15 wine flights, Thursday will have a live DJ, and Sunday will be a day of drinking followed by a jazz trio concert.
ENJOY THE OUTDOORS
We don’t want to jinx it, but the remnants of a hurricane (??) could break through the heatwave this weekend, which means you might not have to hide under your air conditioner all weekend. end. Instead, go enjoy a new patio or an awesome view and relax mentally until our next heat wave.
