Former band The Gap Dorian Paul celebrates his journey and his community with the “Where It All Began” Community Night on May 21, 2022, in his hometown of Houston, Texas.

Paul started after Tom Joyner launched his career in Dallas with his first single “Stacked to the T.” The co-producer and singer contributed to the legendary group The GAP Band for three albums after Charlie Wilson discovered it in the 80’s. He ended up working under Wilson’s wing as his protege for 16 years where he worked with greats like michael jackson and whitney houston and sang backing vocals for Celine Dion.

With new music and giving back to his community, Paul is determined to bring it back to its roots. He says his latest single “9 to 5” is sure to give you that old-school Gap Band feeling.

“The 9-5 is a cut-out dance floor. It’s a record that makes you dance. A very familiar fun groove that people love to listen to. Two-step, swivel. This one will make you feel good,” Paul said.

Born in the 5th district and raised in Trinity Gardens, Paul celebrates his community at Kashmere High School where it all began. The community party “Where it all began” will pay tribute to the inhabitants of the neighborhood where he comes from.

“I wanted to have a party in the community to address the different things that are important to me,” says Paul. The Houston native will feed people alongside Houston Food Bank North, raise money for scholarships for HBCUs and C-average students, and donate proceeds to St. Jude Hospital. In addition to community service, the event will also be filled with music, a fashion show and a dance party. Paul hopes the inaugural event will inspire others to give back to their neighborhood and never forget where they came from.
