Jamie XX turns the Hollywood Bowl into a giant dance party

Last Friday, Jamie XX transformed the Hollywood Bowl into a high-energy dance party. The evening opened with Arushi Jain and Caribou, both of whom uniquely complemented Jamie’s musical style.

After a captivating short set by Arushi Jain, Caribou took center stage. Dan Snaith (Caribou) and his band’s set was a highlight ahead of the release of the new album Cherry, released today, Friday, October 7. Caribou’s radiant energy rocked the crowd, powerfully setting the stage for the evening’s main act. As colors and geometric patterns splashed across the LED backdrop, Caribou performed fan favorites ranging from “Home” to the ending “Can’t Do Without You.”

Next up was the main act of the Jamie XX night. While the Hollywood Bowl is best known for its classic concerts and large-scale shows, the enthusiastic audience came alive as soon as Jamie took center stage. Throughout his nearly two-hour DJ set, Jamie remained silent, letting the music speak for itself.

As Jamie released a myriad of singles from his hit album In colour like “Hold Tight” and “SeeSaw” along with other select tracks, the dance floor turned into a giant rave. Jamie was lit up with ethereal flashing lights and visuals interspersed with live footage straight from the audience. The webcam featured incredible dancing moments taken straight from the crowd which were then replayed on screen for all to see. It was later revealed to the audience that the dancers were actually a staged part of the show, but by then almost the entire crowd was dancing hard.

The highlight of the night was undoubtedly when Jamie released The XX bandmate Romy Madley Croft for “Loud Places.” His ethereal voice and guitar dazzled the audience as they applauded the guest’s stunning and unexpected performance.

Closing the night with fan favorites “I Know There Gonna Be (Good Times)” and “Gosh”, Jamie’s audience was left in a daze, transfixed by the positivity and global unity of dance music. . It will be exciting to see what happens next for Jamie XX. While the now-solo artist has yet to release a full album since 2015, it still remains as impactful and relevant as ever.
