MAPLEWOOD, NJ – Isaiah House, the East Orange homeless shelter, has announced it will host its first “Sunriseat 7 am on Friday August 13 at Maplewood Memorial Park in Maplewood, featuring yoga, music and more.
In addition to benefiting the homeless shelter, the event will also benefit the “Justice for Moussa” reward fund for information leading to the assassins of Maplewood student and football player Moussa Fofana, who was shot and killed by a attacker unknown on June 6. Inspired by the popular Daybreaker morning rave party, the event includes an hour of yoga and meditation with Baker Street Yoga, followed by a lively dance led by a local disc jockey Jen Jones, an Australian who has participated in exclusive shows around the world.
Proceeds will be donated to Isaiah House, East Orange’s only homeless shelter, and to the “Justice for Moussa” fund – dedicated to solving the June murder of Moussa Fofana, an 18-year-old from Columbia High School. .

Isaiah House provides support services to the most vulnerable members of the community, including those devastated by unemployment, disease, drug addiction, teenage pregnancy, fires and crises. During COVID, the shelter provided nearly $ 285,000 in rent assistance to residents of East Orange, and its pantry served nearly 12,000 people from 6,000 households – a 40% increase from 2019.
“Although the need for funds continues to be great due to the devastating impact of COVID, we have not been able to host live events for over 18 months,” said Elizabeth Kubany, co-chair of the event and member of the Isaiah House Board of Directors. “We are thrilled to be producing this fantastic outdoor experience and hope to sell the 250 tickets we have available.”
The SunUp for Isaiah House event will take place from 7 a.m. to 9:30 a.m. on Friday, August 13 at 580 Valley St. in Maplewood. Tickets cost $ 60 for adults, $ 30 for teens, and $ 100 for families; the event is limited to 250 participants.

SunUp is part of Maison Isaiah Summer Series Love Houses. The summer program invites surrounding supporters to open their yards, patios, terraces and swimming pools to friends and family for fundraising events. So far, the program has raised $ 16,000, with three more parties scheduled for August.
Isaiah House is a community facility established in 1988 with a mission to reduce the prevalence of homelessness, hunger and unemployment throughout Essex County, with a focus on Oranges and Newark.
