Midcoast Music Academy turns 10 this year, and everyone is invited to the party


ROCKLAND — Founded in 2012 in Rockland by Berklee College of Music alumnus Tom Ulichny, the school of contemporary music has grown from a single instructor and classroom space to an expanded studio space with beautiful meeting rooms. together on Main Street in Rockland, to a busy school building. in Rockport, with seven instructors and more than 170 students.

“A community music school at its very essence, its students range in age from 6 to 76,” the Midcoast Music Academy said in a press release.

In 2018, the school became a non-profit charitable organization, which allowed it to further strengthen its scholarship program to meet the needs of the community.

“For the past 10 years, the MCMA has been honored to include world-class teaching artists on its faculty,” the statement read. “With a dedication to high quality music education, MCMA’s mission is to harness the power of making music with and for others, regardless of financial constraints, through teaching, performance and community programming. . Music is a universal language, and MCMA appreciates the opportunity to help all students master this language. To that end, they incorporate the fundamentals of music – theory, notation, and auditory training – into all of their classes. This balance between pleasure and theory is at the heart of their work.

Among other shows, MCMA students have performed at Rock City Café, Rockland’s Summer Solstice Street Party, Blue in Portland, Bagaduce Music’s Young Comper’s Festival & Competition, Farnsworth Art Museum, Maine Academy of Modern Music’s MAMM Slam , Rockland’s Lobster Festival, countless school concerts and musicals, and have opened the North Atlantic Blues Festival every year since 2016.

The Midcoast Music Academy invites everyone to join them in celebrating 10 years of music and community on Sunday, June 12, 5-8 p.m., outdoors at Waterworks Restaurant, 7 Lindsey Street, Rockland. Musical performances by alumni and a fantastic faculty jam will be followed by a dance party featuring The Right Track.

MCMA 10th Anniversary tickets are $20 for adults and $12 for students, with a family maximum of $100. Pizza by Uproot Pie Co. will be available, as well as a cash bar by Waterworks.
