Police fired at it with fireworks in crackdown on illegal Halloween raves

Police were hit by fireworks as they dispersed a group of 300 youths amid a crackdown on illegal Halloween raves.

Officers attended the party on Glasshouse Walk, Lambeth, shortly before midnight on Friday October 29 following reports of fireworks.

They found 300 young people living in a large community center and tried to disperse the crowd.

Brawls broke out and fireworks were launched at the officers.

An officer was injured and the crowd dispersed at 1:20 a.m.

Later that night, officers were made aware of another illegal rave in the arches of the railroad on Corbetts Lane, Southwark. About 150 people were dispersed by the police and the sound system was seized.

Officers left the second scene at 3:45 a.m.

It wasn’t the South Londoners having fun though.

In Bethnal Green, police cut a party off before it had time to develop. They went to an address on Birkbeck Street.

There were 30 people at the scene but they quickly left.

Further warrants were executed in Southwark and Camden with three people arrested and a “quantity” of drugs, knives and other weapons found.

Chief Inspector Jack May-Robinson said: “While we appreciate that a lot of people are celebrating Halloween this weekend with house parties, a number of people will choose to host big music events.

“These gatherings ruin the lives of local residents. They often attract anti-social behavior and can be dangerous environments for those who frequent them.

“When we identify an event, we work hard to make sure the proper action is taken and equipment is seized to prevent attendees from moving to another location.

“Additional patrols are taking place across London to maintain public safety. I urge anyone concerned to contact the police so that we can shut down these EMUs before they escalate. “
