The nation’s media raves about the Leeds star after a stunning midweek display

Raphinha scored his third goal for Brazil at international level on Tuesday as Brazil won 4-0 against Paraguay in the 2022 World Cup qualifier. Brazilian newspaper Globo gave him a mark of 8/10 for his efforts.

The 25-year-old, who was reportedly the subject of surprise interest from West Ham United towards the end of the January window, picked up his seventh cap for the Selecao. Brazil hosted Paraguay and were excellent in a 4-0 win.

Brazil have already qualified for the World Cup in Qatar, topping the 10-nation round robin. The top four advance and the fifth enter a qualifying game – and Brazil are 18 points clear of fifth-placed Peru with four to play.

So even if there was nothing major to play for, Brazil would still want to finish above Argentina in the table – and it showed on Tuesday night. Raphinha was in majestic form, her side’s biggest threat in Neymar’s absence.

Before even opening the scoring, Raphinha was denied a goal – finishing perfectly on the post. His end goal was breathtaking, perfect control, an inside cut and a typical Raphinha finish. His third goal for Brazil in seven caps.

Globo gave Raphinha an 8/10 and said: “He scored a goal which ended up being disallowed, then he scored a nice goal, getting rid of the marker. He also hit the post and also made a good second half.

Raphinha shines for Brazil: Can Leeds keep their star talent?

Raphinha is simply overtaking Leeds at the moment. Los Blancos are said to be in talks with his agent, Deco, over a new contract, but ultimately the winger is going to leave Leeds behind with this type of performance.

This season he has been enigmatic for Leeds – and shines for Brazil. Ahead of the 2022 World Cup, he is expected to start on the flanks alongside Neymar and Gabriel Jesus. Can Leeds keep him this summer? May be.
